Jam Packed Post: What's New, Short u Phonics Based Literacy Centers, & Freebie

26 January 2014
I have some exciting news!   Carson-Dellosa Publishing has selected me to be part of their Creative Partner Blogger Summit!   Here is my letter!   I am one of just five bloggers invited.   I cannot wait to share with you my experiences and to hang out with the other four bloggers!  I am working with the adorable Color Me Bright line!

They sent me a sample set to check out!  I love it.

Onto the short u centers, I made during my snow day:

I created this Short Vowel U Literacy Packet to use with my class this week.  My plans are a bit off due to an assembly, professional development, and Fountas and Pinnell testing, so I am not going to post them.  Though, I am posting a short vowel phonics mini-poster at the end of this post.

Included my short u center packet:

Short Vowel u File Folder Word Wall With Pictures

Short Vowel u Mini-Poster

Short Vowel u Flash Card Page

Short Vowel u Word Sort - Students will sort word-picture cards by -ut, -unk, and -ug ending. They will then record their work.

Search/Read/Write the Room - Students will search the room for picture-word cards. They will record their findings on a recording sheet. I have provided you with a choice of two recording sheets.

Roll and Write a Word - Students will roll a word and then record it on a recording sheet. They will continue to roll until one word has "won." They will then analyze their data.

Magnify Tiny Short Vowel u Words - Students will use a magnifying glass to find tiny words with short vowel u words. They will then record their work. I have provided you with a choice of two recording sheets.

Writing Center - Students will create their own "My Little Book of Words with Short Vowel u."

Short Vowel u Rhymes - Students will match word/picture cards with their rhyming words. They will record and illustrate their rhymes.

Short Vowel u Themed Build a Sentence - Students will arrange picture cards in the right order to tell a complete sentence. They will record their sentences.

Build a Word - Students will build words using picture cards containing a beginning sound, a short vowel u sound, and an ending sound. They will then record and illustrate their words.

Spin a Word - Students will spin a beginning sound and an ending sound to build a word ending in -unk or -ut. They will then record their work. Nonsense words will also be recorded under a nonsense word column.

I hope you check out the packet on TpT by clicking here

My mom's children's book is coming out soon!   You can pre-order it on Amazon.com.

During my snow day last week and I got addicted to The Walking Dead on Netflix.  I needed something to watch while working on TpT stuff.   Um...The Walking Dead was the wrong choice of shows... I totally cannot focus on my computer!

I am working on a 101st Day of School Packet now.  I am almost all caught up on The Walking Dead, so hopefully, I can focus and finish it!

  1. Oh Erica! Love the centers! Congratulations on your invite! How exciting! I totally need your shirt you posted! I am ADDICTED TO NETFLIX! Believe it or not Walking Dead is what got me hooked a year ago! I watch while I work! Just finished catching up on the previous 8 seasons of Bones...so I'm looking for something new! Have fun watching!
